Bayonetta review

with one comment

Bayonetta is an action packed beat em up. The main character is a sexy witch who needs to fight angels daily or she will get dragged to hell. Yes that may seem rather dumb but that’s a easy excuse to motivate this character into doing it. Its very violent and sexy at the same time.

Gameplay: a lot of combos and a lot of weapons. Many of the boss fights are interesting. The combos and witch time ability make this one worth playing. The only thing I had a problem with is some of the quick time events. They don’t really give you a heads up before it happens, and if you don’t push the required buttons you die.

Graphics: all the enemies are well designed and look great. The areas are bright and very colored. But some areas are blocked off. They look like you can explore them but really you can’t.

Story: Not one of the best stories or the one that makes the most sense. Its just there to give the characters the motivation. They do a lot of satire of other games and themselves. I would of wanted more jokes to tie up most of the plot. It would of added to a better story that is so over the top.

Conclusion:it is a very fun game to be played. While the story may not be the best in the world it gives the characters what they need. The action and gameplay is where this game excels. Its sexy violent and very funny at times.

Played the PS3 version for this review beat normal and on to hard mode.

A quick update.

I guess I was wrong and maybe they heard the people. PSN just released a patch that will allow you to install the game on your HDD for the PS3. After downloading it I tested it. The load times were shorter. When you pick up items and open your menu now there are no load times. A big improvement to which many reviewers say plague the PS3. There is still a slight loading time when you start a level but it is very short compared to what it was before. I tested it on a chapter to see the results and got loading times about 7-20 seconds.

So far I clocked over 15 hours and on the process of beating Hard mode.

Demon’s souls

leave a comment »

I don’t mean to scare anyone on how difficult this game is but this is one hard game. Anything in the level can kill you if you are not careful. The AI’s are smart, they don’t wait for you to be finished with one demon before they start coming after you. They will do whatever possible to try to stop you. Which means a lot of group attacks and sneak attacks. And they don’t attack each other either. I can say for certain that 90% of the enemies will work together and attack you and only you.

Another game on the PS3 that has received much heated debate. This one introduces an action online RPG. While you don’t really play with other people online if you do connect to the online network you can see the actions and deaths of other players. This provides hints and caution signs for how to work your way out of the level. You start out fighting demons and collecting their souls. Once you reach the end you fight the boss. Pretty standard but if you die you lose all the souls you have on you and you have to start from the beginning of the level. You can regain those souls if you reach the place with you dead to pick up your own soul. That’s pretty much how this game works. If you think that’s hard, the game’s stuck on hard mode. Any monster/demon/human/etc can kill you at any time during the level. And theses aren’t average NPCs or dumb boss monsters either, they will seek you out and get your soul. So you may be asking why is this game even worth picking up to begin with? Well it does one thing a lot of games don’t do nowadays; challenge the player. It forces you whether you want to or not to learn how to play the game. Makes you into a better demon slayer and rewards you with more souls if you do so. In this game you use souls to buy just about everything from state upgrades to your potions.

When it comes down to it this game isn’t for everyone. You will die and die and die. You are guaranteed to die many times more often then winning. But if you are one who likes challenges and like getting rewards for your hard work then this game is for you. At times you may feel like this game is way too hard and that you should quit. And your right it is very hard but if you keep going and make improvements i.e. learning from your mistakes, avoiding certain areas, learning weak spots, etc then you will find it very satisfying.

Bayonetta

First off I should tell you guys that I have a PS3 slim 120 GB system. And after playing for a couple of hours of Bayonetta I found the loading times to be tolerable. Different websites and other reviewers say that the PS3 version has been plagued by screen tearing, loading issues, etc. Maybe it was because of the PS3 slim but after playing a few levels I found that the only real complain was the level loading times. For me it took about 1-3 minutes for the level to load. The cut scenes were smooth and did not experience loading in-between the scene. Item pick ups did take about 2 seconds to load but that’s not a real complain. Action and game play was smooth and didn’t find any errors or bugs. While there is loading time during the menu and saved data it isn’t anything to be upset about. Yes it does take the fast action aspect out of the game play. But theses imperfections can be fixed with a patch (if they ever give us one). When it all comes down to it this game is a fun game. Many other games have load issues and many bugs and they still got praised by reviewers on how good they are. But why does the PS3 Bayonetta version receive such harsh criticisms? It may be due to the fact that on the Xbox 360 it runs better and there are less load times. But also since this is a kind of new concept people may not be used to this genre. A confident sexy female protagonist battling angels with a huge amount of gore. This is not a game to be taken seriously, its meant to be played and enjoyed.

Bioshock review

leave a comment »

To begin I want to start out that this game might seem like another one of their games System Shock 2 but I don’t want that to distract you from a good game experience. Without revealing too much of the plot this game is a first person shooter with some role-playing elements mixed in. You play Jack who survived a plane crash, in the middle of the ocean you swim to discover a tower. As you go in you realize an underwater city called Rapture. All is not well in this city, and you basically fight against the crazed citizens and other dangers to find a way out.

The story: An interesting tale of a person trying to made a utopia society under the sea. But like many other stories not all go according to plan and things go from bad to worst. You are told of the events surrounding Rapture on tape journals you find scattered around the city.
Gameplay: Pretty standard 1st person shooting and you get different powers from ADAM which is a chemical that you inject to give you different powers and abilities. Weapons range from a Wrench to a Chemical thrower and everything in between.

Concepts: You get ADAM from theses “little sisters” which are freaky looking little girls who take out ADAM from the dead citizens. They are protected by the “Big Daddies” who are monstrous looking citizens with armor and a drill. You have to kill them in order for you to get to the “Little Sisters”.

Visuals: This game does look visually pleasing. The underwater city looks old and worn. The water acts the way water does, fire, electric, etc. The look of the characters don’t look too bad. Bullets make holes in the wall, fire leaves burn marks, and everything seems to be working in order.

In conclusion: Yes this game does feel like a copy paste of the ideas from System Shock 2, but if you are looking for a dark and eerie story this game is for you. Game play is fun and playing around with element powers is awesome. The story is about how things could have gone if we thought differently about morality and how one man’s choice could affect everything we could have done. Bioshock delivers quick action with a deep and scary story of what could have been. While the game play might be repetitive and boring at times, the story and small details make this a game worth playing. Like something out of a Ayn Rand book the game takes you deeper into a world of egoism, objectivism, and greed.
